Two Marines Killed, 22 Wounded in Al Anbar Province

I'm not sure if these two events are connected, but I wouldn't be surprised.

04/14/06 CENTCOM: Two Marines Killed, 22 Wounded in Al Anbar Province
Two Marines died and 22 were wounded due to enemy action while operating in al Anbar Province April 13. One Marine ... died at the scene of the attack. Another ... died at a medical facility in Taqqadum.

IRAQ - TODAY'S ATTACKS -April 12

The Iraqi capital is seething with confusion. Murder, assassination and kidnapping are the words of the day. Blast walls rule all. Security is the growth industry in a city ravaged by bloodshed.
In Country:
1: Iraq’s oil production has shrunk to 1.8 million barrels a day, way below average output rates prior to the 2003 U.S.-led invasion of the country. The northern oil fields of Kirkuk now produce (only) about 300,000 barrels a day for local consumption.
Baghdad:
1: The source said that four Iraqis, including one policeman and three civilians, were killed when a roadside bomb exploded near a police patrol in Waziriya district in central Baghdad on Wednesday morning.
2: Gunmen in Baghdad hunted down three different government employees and shot them dead...Interior Ministry was killed...in Amil...A Housing Ministry employee was killed as he drove to work...gunmen shot down an Oil Ministry worker at a bus stop
3: Police said they found the bodies of three men in different areas of the capital. The identities of the victims were not immediately clear.
4: Insurgent attacks have killed seven U.S. soldiers since Sunday, including two who died in a roadside bombing just south of Baghdad on Wednesday.
5: The third car bomb exploded in Baghdad, targeting a police patrol in the northern district of Wazziriyah. The blast killed one policeman and two civilians, and wounded four others.
6: In a separate attack, a policeman was shot dead in Baghdad early Wednesday.
7: A Multi-National Division – Baghdad servicemember died at approximately 10 a.m. April 12 when he was struck by an improvised explosive device during a patrol east of Baghdad.
8: Three other civilians, including a photographer, were also killed by gunmen on Baghdad streets, and an attack at a barber shop in the southern Dora district left the owner and a customer wounded, police said.
Baqubah:
1: Northeast of Baghdad, a roadside bomb in the city of Baqouba targeted a convoy carrying the deputy of the governor of Diyala province, wounding two of his guards.
2: Gunmen killed a senior regional government intelligence officer and three of his bodyguards in the town of Khanakeen, near Baquba, 65 km (40 miles) north of Baghdad.
3: A car bomb exploded outside a Shi'ite mosque in a town north of Baghdad on Wednesday and police said initial reports indicated at least 20 people were killed. The blast targeted worshippers at a mosque in the town of Howaydir.
A car bomb killed at least 26 people outside a Shi'ite mosque north of Baghdad, some 70 people were wounded in the explosion. Hospital officials said casualty tolls were expected to rise as ambulances were still rushing in with victims.
Tal Afar:
1: In the ancient city of Tal Afar, a suicide car bomber drove up to a busy vegetable market and detonated his explosives, killing at least two shoppers and wounding seven others, said police Brig. Abdul-Hamid Khalaf.
Khalis:
1: Two people were killed and 20 wounded when a car bomb exploded near a market in the town of Khalis, 80 km (50 miles) north of Baghdad, police said.
Basra:
1: Two rockets hit the British military base at the Basra airport complex about 3am local time, but there were no damages or casualties.
Muqdadiyah:
1: In Muqdadiyah, about 60 miles north of Baghdad, mortar rounds struck a police station, wounding three policemen.
Kirkuk:
1: Two civilians died when hit by a roadside bomb south of the northern oil hub of Kirkuk, a police officer said, adding that four others were wounded.
Ramadi:
1: NEAR RAMADI - After killing two drivers, gunmen set on fire two trucks carrying goods for the U.S. military on a road between Ramadi and Rutba, west of Baghdad, witnesses and police said.
Baiji:
1: Gunmen shot dead two Iraqi army soldiers and wounded another while they were traveling in a civilian car in central Baiji, 180 km (112 miles) north of Baghdad, U.S. and Iraqi military officials said.
Sulayman Beg:
1: A roadside bomb killed two policemen in the town of Sulayman Beg, about 90 north of Baghdad.
Mosul:
#1: Gunmen shot dead three policemen just west of Mosul, 390 km (240 miles) north of Baghdad. Gunmen also shot dead one policeman in the city.

IRAQ - TODAY'S ATTACKS

Baghdad:

  1. Three Iraqis were killed and another two injured in Bab-Alsharqi area of Baghdad when mortar shells landed on Naji AL-Khudhairi Mosque and several neighboring houses.
  2. Two civilians from the same family were killed when a bomb exploded at the door of their house in central Baghdad, police said.
  3. Two Swedes were killed and six injured in Friday's suicide bomb attack on a Shiite mosque in Baghdad, Sweden's foreign ministry said Saturday. The victims were a Swedish man, Asaad Alsuheil, and his six-year old
  4. Elsewhere, police on Saturday found four headless bodies showing signs of torture that were dumped on a farm about 20 mile north of Baghdad.
  5. In neighboring Saydiyah, gunmen shot and wounded a barber as he was leaving his home,
  6. and back in Dora, another man was shot and wounded while driving his car. A pistol and wads of American dollars were found in the car, police said.
  7. a mortar round hit a house near the Education Ministry in central Baghdad, killing two men, police said.

Baqubah:
  1. Armed men opened fire on a group of five flour mill workers who were on their way to work southwest of Baquba, killing two and wounding the other three, police said
  2. two police bomb squad members were wounded when a roadside bomb went off after they had defused another similar device. The second bomb went off as they were approaching it to defuse it, police said. Three civilians from the same family were also wounded in the blast.

Musayib:
  1. A CAR bomb killed at least six Shi'ite pilgrims today near a shrine in a town south of Baghdad, a police official said. The bomb exploded in the mostly Shi'ite town of Musayib a day after a triple suicide bombing...
Karbala:
  1. In...Karbala, seven bullet-riddled bodies were received by the local hospital on Saturday. Four bodies were of men in Iraqi army uniforms, Karbala hospital director Anwar Saduk said, adding that all the bodies showed torture marks.
Tikrit:
  1. Four other bodies were found by police late Friday near Tikrit.
Kirkuk:
  1. Iraqi Police of Kirkuk said Saturday morning that two Police personnel were injured when an explosive device blew up on the Kirkuk-Mosul road.
  2. Police found the bodies of four Iraqi soldiers shot in the head with signs of torture dumped at the side of a road near the Himreen mountains 120 km (75 miles) south of the northern oil city of Kirkuk, police said. The soldiers were abducted in Tikrit on Thursday.
  3. A police major and his two sons were wounded when a bomb exploded near his house in Kirkuk on Friday, police said on Saturday.
Tuz Khumato:
  1. An Iraqi contractor working for the U.S. military was abducted from the town of Tuz Khurmatu 70 km (40 miles) south of Kirkuk, police said.
Riyad:
  1. Six policemen were wounded when a roadside bomb detonated near their patrol in Riyad, 60 km (40 miles) southwest of Kirkuk, police said.
Fallujah:
  1. "Fierce clashes erupted in the afternoon between Iraqi military forces and insurgents in the Nazzal neighborhood in southern Fallujah and in the center area of the city, killing two soldiers and wounding three others," local witnesses
Ramadi:
  1. In Ramadi, some 110 km west of Baghdad, insurgents clashed with U.S. troops in the center of the city for several hours in the morning, local resident said. However, it was not clear whether there were any casualties on both sides as the U.S. troops blocked all the entrances of the city, they said.

Iraq attacks 4/3/2006

Baghdad:

  1. Iraq Iraqi police say four members of a Shiite family were killed in southern Baghdad last night. They say gunmen lined up a brother, two sisters and their uncle against a wall and shot them.
  2. Also in the same neighborhood, drive-by shooters killed a police captain outside his home
  3. Five civilians were wounded when a car bomb exploded near a convoy of SUVs in central Baghdad, police said. The vehicles are usually used by foreign contractors.
  4. Two civilians were killed and six wounded when a car bomb targeting a police patrol exploded in northeastern Baghdad, police said.
  5. Police discovered two bodies in eastern Baghdad - one in Mashtal that was handcuffed and shot in the head, another in Baladiyat that was strangled and covered with bandages. Police also discovered three bodies in eastern Baghdad neighborhoods. One in Mashtal was handcuffed and shot in the head, another in Baladiyat was strangled and covered with bandages, and the third was found in Sadr City, shot in the forehead.
  6. A car bomb killed at least 10 people near a Shi'ite mosque in Baghdad on Monday, Interior Ministry sources said. The blast in the Shaab district of Baghdad also wounded at least 30 people, the sources said.

Camp Echo: (between Baghdad and Ad-Diwaniyah)

  1. SLOVAK soldiers serving as part of a multinational force in Iraq came under artillery fire on March 30. Camp Echo, near the Iraqi town of Ad Diwaniyah between Baghdad and the southern city of Basra, was hit by two shells on Thursday at around 19:00.

Baqubah:

  1. in Baquba, a university student was shot in the middle of the downtown market. Police speculated that the motive might have been because the student belonged to a Sunni political party or had a brother working as a translator for coalition forces.
  2. Outside Baquba, on the main highway, a man was killed when a roadside bomb went off, while a man and a woman riding in a taxi were shot at by gunmen.

Buhriz:

  1. Bombings in Buhriz damaged several buildings, including a barber shop and grocery store, in a market district of the town, which is a former Saddam stronghold about 55 kilometres northeast of Baghdad, police said.

Baiji:

  1. BAIJI - A policeman was killed and two others wounded when gunmen attacked their patrol in Baiji, police said.
  2. Two soldiers were killed and three wounded when gunmen attacked their patrol near Baiji, 180 km (112 miles) north of Baghdad, police said.

Basra:

  1. Gunmen shot down six people, including a child, in a market area of the southern city of Basra, police said. The victims of the drive-by shooters in Basra included a navy officer, two policemen, two workers at an electrical plant, and a boy.

Kirkuk:

  1. An Iraqi was killed and five others including a policeman were injured in an armed attack on a fuel station in Huwaija west of the Iraqi northern city of Kirkuk, police said on Monday.
  2. In another development, five Katyusha rockets slammed near an Iraqi army barracks north of Kirkuk. There were no damages reported.
  3. Unknown gunmen also attacked an Iraqi army vehicle in central Kirkuk, Gader said adding no further details.
  4. Gunmen killed the Imam of a Sunni mosque in the oil city of Kirkuk, 250 km (155 miles) north of Baghdad, police said.

An Anbar Prov:

  1. (Ramadi?) CAMP FALLUJAH, Iraq – Three Marines and one Sailor assigned to 2/28 Brigade Combat Team, serving with Multi-National Force West, died from enemy action while operating in Al Anbar Province April
  2. A U.S. military truck rolled over in a flash food in western Iraq's Anbar province, killing five U.S. Marines, injuring another and leaving three other troops missing--two Marines and a sailor who were missing following the Sunday accident.

Nibaie:

  1. North of the capital in Nibaie, gunmen killed two truck drivers and kidnapped another while they were carrying construction materials to the U.S. military base in Balad, police said.

Latifiya:

  1. Police said they found the blindfolded, mutilated bodies of two unknown people who had been shot dead near Latifiya, 40 km (25 miles) south of Baghdad.

IRAQ - TODAY'S ATTACKS

Baghdad:
#1:Two people were wounded when a roadside bomb exploded in eastern Baghdad's Zayuna neighborhood Monday morning, police said.
#2: In western Baghdad, four people were wounded when a roadside bomb hit an Iraqi police patrol in Khahtan Square.
#3: Three people were wounded when a mortar round landed in central Baghdad. The attack took place in the Karrada neighborhood.
#4: Of the 21 bodies reported Monday, nine were found in west Baghdad--Two men and a woman who were shot in the head were found late Sunday in east Baghdad--At a farm east of Baghdad, the bodies of nine men kidnapped a day earlier were discovered by relatives
#5: A ROCKET blasted a commercial building in Baghdad, killing at least seven people and wounding 30 others.
#6: another rocket attack that hit a nearby house, killing one person and wounding two in the Za'afaraniya area of Baghdad.

Sadr City (Baghdad):
#1:Just before midday Monday, a bomb exploded inside a minibus in the Sadr City section of the Iraqi capital, killing two people in the vehicle, emergency police said. Six others were wounded in the explosion.
#2: At least one person was killed and three wounded when a car bomb exploded in Baghdad's Sadr city, a Shi'ite Muslim slum, police said, a day after 20 people were shot dead in a local mosque.

Mosul:
#1: (near Tal Afar) At least 30 people were killed in a bomb blast inside a joint U.S.-Iraq base in Mosul on Monday, police said. An Interior Ministry source said the explosion targeted Iraqi army recruits and may have been carried out by a suicide bomber.
At least 40 people were killed and 20 others wounded today when a suicide bomber blew himself up in the midst of candidates waiting at an army recruitment centre in northwest Iraq, an interior ministry official said.

#2: Five policemen were wounded when insurgents threw a grenade at their patrol in the city of Mosul, 390 km (240 miles) north of Baghdad, police said.

Tall Al-Sakher (near Tal Afar):

#1: Late Sunday, Iraqi police found 18 bodies along a road near Tall al-Sakher a Baghdad Emergency police official said. Eyewitnesses said gunmen driving in three vehicles attacked a group of young men.

Anbar Prv:
#1: A U.S. soldier with the Army's 2/28 Brigade Combat Team died of a heart attack in Anbar Province Saturday, a military statement said. The death was not combat-related. Since the start of the war, 2,322 U.S. troops have died in Iraq.

Tikrit:
#1: NEAR TIKRIT - Four people who work in the U.S. military base near Tikrit, 175 km (110 miles) north of Baghdad, were wounded when gunmen attacked them while they were heading to the base, local authorities said.

Dujail:
#1:Police found the body of a man with gunshot wounds in an area near Dujail, 90 km (55 miles) north of Baghdad, a police source said.

Yathrib (near Balad):
Police said they found the body of a man who works as an Iraqi army supplier in the town of Yathrib, near Balad, 65 km (40 miles) north of Baghdad.

Baqubah:

#1: A bomb exploded inside the Baquba office of al-Sadr late Monday morning, wounding three people, police said. Al-Sadr has offices for his organizations -- both political and militia -- at locations throughout Iraq.
